Our Story

Ohemaa the label was born out of a passion for creativity, culture, and the beauty of personal expression. Our founder, Deb, hails from a small city in Accra, Ghana, where she was raised by a seamstress mother with a deep love for fashion and a keen eye for accessories. Growing up, she was surrounded by hardworking women in various fields: seamstress, hairdresser, chef, potter, entrepreneur and more. These women shared a common thread: a love for their craft and the space it gave them to express their creativity.

One of the most cherished memories Deb has from her childhood is the ritual of dressing up for church on Sundays. Her mother, who made all of their clothes, would always accessorize with elegant jewels. Deb would eagerly look forward to choosing the perfect jewelry to match her outfit, and it was through this tradition that her love for jewelry truly blossomed.

As Deb grew, so did her passion for jewelry. Traveling the world and experiencing different cultures opened her eyes to the beauty and artistry of global craftsmanship. One of her favorite activities during these travels was visiting markets, particularly Makola Market,  where she would explore the vibrant world of handmade jewelry, meet artisans, and learn about the intricate processes that brought these beautiful pieces to life.

Ohemaa, meaning "Queen" in Ghana, embodies the essence of feeling regal and confident. We want every piece of our jewelry to make you feel like royalty, empowered, elegant, and uniquely you. Our collections are inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Ghana, infused with global influences, and created with the intention of celebrating women who lead, create, nurture, and inspire - in every role they choose.

Our pieces are ethically sourced whiles others are handmade by our founder. When you wear Ohemaa the label jewelry, you're not just wearing a beautiful piece, you're embracing a legacy of craftsmanship, creativity, and the spirit of women who empower and inspire.
